Overview
The Good Humanitarian Group provides a forum for donors to discuss and advance good practice on humanitarian related topics. The 23 Principles and Good Practice defined by the group provide both a framework to guide official humanitarian aid and a mechanism for encouraging greater donor accountability. These were drawn up to enhance the coherence and effectiveness of donor action, as well as their accountability to beneficiaries, implementing organisations and domestic constituencies, with regard to the funding, coordination, follow up and evaluation of such actions. Each year the GHD group create a workplan to work towards. The workplan is divided into over-arching themes and each theme has multiple workstreams.
The GHD Workplan 2010-2011 workplan is divided into the three following themes:
- Enhancing Partnership
- Strengthening the operational focus of GHD
- Enhancing needs-based allocation and mechanisms for humanitarian financing
Each year a number of working-level GHD Group meetings are held during which progress on the workplan is shared. One high-level meeting is also convened per year at the end of which an annual report is compiled on advancements of the GHD group.
